bluejuice SG Bear, thanks but I'll pass on this time... Was thinking of the kueh lapis but order now, its a little too early. Will ask mum if she wants to make this year.. if not, then we'll get something else..
elindra SG I guess it's a good thing I dun really like to eat Bak Gwa I don't even eat that in SG Nevermind la. When you come over you can buy those vacuum packed ones to bring back to slowly eat
LOTUSfairy SG work is now oki....can breathe liao... i am now doing our mid-price product listing...and i can sneak a bit of time checking what to eat at Ho Chi Minh City (going off 6am ie...19 hrs later). I havent done much reading on wat to eat there...and i havent pack.. anyway, just 5 days... I bring miminal clothings..not enough, go buy there..cheap clothings as my hotel 5 mins from the famous BIG BEN THANH Market..
LOTUSfairy SG i bought $20 worth of bak gua the other day.....about 8 pieces inside only.. i ate 2 pieces..and the rest...i guess, should be in my parents' tummy by end of this week..
fudgester SG Anyway, I don't think I did that well for my presentation just now. The profs were complaining that I had went over the time limit.... the thing is, I had made sure to clock just under the time limit during my rehearsals. Problem is, there's just too much to present in too little time. I spoke to the guy after me - he also overshot the limit as he had too much to present. Oh well... nothing I can do about it now.
Rhonda SG Actually, I calculated wrongly... They cost A$2.50 a slice here!! I don't think we can bring the vacuum packed ones back... the customs here is a royal pain in the unmentionables. There was an angry lady who wrote in to the papers to complain that maybe there are many unhappy females working in the customs dept because she witnessed a man destroying two bottles of very good wine by smashing the bottles together, because the rigid idiots at customs refused to allow him to bring them in. She says she knows the value of the wine and she was quite angry at the stupidity of it all. Knowing the customs here, they probably found fault with the cork.
Rhonda SG Why you didn't ask earlier?! I have a Vietnamese colleague whom I could have asked for 'insider' info!
zoragirl SG gd morning.... suddenly i hv craving for bak gua....(put in between 2 slice of bread...yum yum)
viciouskitty74 SG Oei.......you folks are getting me started.....and I am trying to refuse to be buying new year stuff this year. i got no one, no place to celebrate cny.
jetta SG VK was nice enough to give me some vacuum-packed bak kwa when she was here last. I didn't even know such things existed! I've been rationing it very well. I don't think I can get bak kwah here though.
bluejuice SG I agree... Aussie and the kiwi customs are very difficult to get pass. Last time, I try to bring kaya in, and tell them its chinese jam.. they don't know, so let it pass through.. Or, I know of ppl who bring char siew bao in.. but they layer the top with normal red bean.. so that when customs check, they see only red bean
